How old does my child need to be to participate in Cub Scouts?
Children from ages Kindergarten to 5th Grade can participate in Cub Scouting.
Can we start at any age?
Yes. A scout can join the pack at any rank. So, they don't need to have been a Lion (Kindergarten) for example, to be a Tiger (1st Grade).
How can I sign up my child for Scouting?
Just get in touch with us here: gwpack134@gmail.com
There will be some forms to fill out of course. You can find those here: Youth Application PDF and Health Forms PDF
How much does it cost?
The dues for the year are TBD, but will likely be around $300. This covers the national / regional council fees our pack must pay, and lets the pack provide important components to the scouting experience, like Pinewood Derby equipment, snacks and food, some camping/overnight fees, etc.
What are the uniform requirements and where can I purchase uniforms?
The Cub Scout uniform descriptions can be found here: Cub Scout Uniform Guide. They can purchased in person at the Hudson Valley Scout Shop in Fishkill, or online at the main BSA scout shop. (Uniforms are expected at Pack Nights and for other special events).
What are the expected commitments after we join?
There are monthly Pack night meetings (usually a Friday at George Washington Elementary School). There are also meetings with your den that can happen once or twice a month. There are also various events and activities schedules throughout the year. While it's ok to miss an occasional meeting or event, it's encouraged to attend as many as possible.
What are my expectations as a parent?
Parents are expected to be present at Pack and Den Meetings, and any Cub Scout Event (NOTE: Parent/Guardian/Trusted Adult is required to be present at all activities at the Cub Scout Level, sorry no drop offs until Boy Scouts!)
